About Me
Researching with Purpose, Rooted in Community
I’m a qualitative researcher, writer, and community activist dedicated to tackling structural inequalities through research, action, and collaborative change
My work is grounded in lived experience and a strong commitment to racial and social justice. My research explores how poverty, racialisation, and marginalisation shape everyday life, with a particular focus on Pakistani heritage communities in the UK, children’s oral health inequalities, minoritised communities’ use of public space, and post-colonial politics in the South Pacific, especially Fiji.
I am a Research Associate at the Global Race Centre for Equality (GRACE) at the University of Central Lancashire, where I focus on co-producing research with communities to identify under-researched issues and support communities to lead their own inquiries using decolonised and participatory methodologies.
My academic and professional experience spans both the UK and the South Pacific. I’ve worked in international development, conducted field research abroad, and presented my work at universities both in the UK and internationally. I use ethnographic, phenomenological, and capabilities-based approaches to foreground the lived realities of people often excluded from dominant narratives.
In addition to academic work, I have a strong track record in community-led action. I established a free, bilingual, culturally sensitive counselling service, and co-founded a race equity body that works strategically with public sector organisations to challenge systemic inequalities and influence change. Between 2020 and 2025, I successfully secured over £2.2 million in funding for grassroots and regional projects across Lancashire.
I serve as a trustee and board member for several organisations focused on poverty and race equity, and am a confident public speaker and experienced bid writer. My practice is rooted in a belief that research must not only understand the world but also transform it—by working alongside communities to produce knowledge that is accountable, critical, and liberatory.
